Toileting Videos and Apps to Support Learning

Learning about toileting and the body can feel like a big job for children (and families!). Watching a video or playing a game can make the learning process easier, and much more fun.

Here are some videos and apps you might find helpful when teaching your child about the toilet and to help them feel motivated to learn.

A quick note before you start:
Please watch any video or app first to make sure it’s appropriate for your child. Watch the videos all the way through, to make sure there is nothing that could scare your child and it is all appropriate for their level. This can also help with knowing how much to show them – some children may only need short clips at a time, rather than watching a whole video at once.

Toileting Videos with Cartoon Characters

Inviting cartoons and known characters make learning about toileting feel more relaxed and fun. These short videos can be watched together and can help children feel more comfortable or learn the steps for toileting.

Tom’s Toilet Triumph: A short narrative video showing a child’s successful toilet journey, offering encouragement and visual modelling. While this isn’t a known character, this cartoon is our favourite!

Apps for Toileting & Self-Care

These apps provide a more interactive element that can be more engaging for some children and allow for repetition of these concepts in simple, fun ways.

Toileting Songs

Sometimes, adding a little fun, music, and laughter can be just what children need. Familiar characters and catchy songs can make toilet routines feel less daunting and much more enjoyable. It also gives you something you can sing together while sitting on the toilet!

Wiggles – The Toilet Song: A fun, musical routine that teaches children about toilet use in an upbeat, sing-along style.

Final Tip

There are lots of videos and resources on the internet about the body and toileting. Even those designed for very young children can be useful when watched together with humour and patience. Sometimes, laughing along with a silly character is part of what it takes to make learning stick!
