CLINICAL PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT:

Self Care Workshop

SYDNEY: Thursday 4 May, 2023

BRISBANE: Thursday 22 June, 2023

CONTENT OVERVIEW (7 PD Hours):

Self care mastery unlocks true independence and is linked to higher quality of life. Occupational Therapists are an essential component of the team often required to help kids and teens build their self care skills. Now within the NDIS, creation of effective goals and implementation of goal-directed treatment is more important than ever, along with the accurate and timely measurement of these goals.

However, a child’s mastery of self care is a complex and sometimes slow process. It can be entangled by lack of child motivation to care for themselves, the parent’s difficulty slowing down or relinquishing control, busy environments and the complexity of the tasks involved. So how should an occupational therapist approach self care skill development with a clear, goal-directed, realistically paced approach? Join Rebecca Khan for this one-day face to face workshop where you will explore:

  • A framework for reviewing current function
  • A review of learning theory, task analysis
  • Practical workshop with writing goals (informed by the PRPP System of Task Analysis – stage 1)
  • Goal measurement tools including Quality of Life Measurements, with examples of implementation into NDIS report writing
  • Incorporating environmental supports to facilitate task participation
  • Facilitating implementation across contexts (home and school)
  • Explore watch and smart device apps to facilitate reminders
