CLINICAL PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT:
Developing Toileting Skills & Managing Incontinence
Continence Occupational Therapist, Rebecca Khan, will be presenting two days of practical and informative Professional Development training for clinicians who want to understand how to effectively help kids overcome toileting difficulty. We are excited to be able to offer both days as face-to-face training in Paddington, Brisbane to strengthen ties within the clinical community.
Registration is available for either DAY 1, DAY 2 or both DAY 1 & 2, but please note that the content of DAY 1 is a prerequisite for DAY 2. If you have completed one of Rebecca’s previous Professional Development days with DAY 1 content, please feel free to register for DAY 2 only.
DAY 1:
Thursday 4 August, 2022 – Paddington, Brisbane
Registration Fee: $380 per person incl GST – EARLY BIRD $350 available until 5 June 2022

- Toilet Training; Biomechanics of sitting and using the toilet
- Toileting set up & routines
- Sensory elements
- Exploring interoception as it relates to toileting and the urge to go
- Shaping behavioural elements and routines
- Bladder assessment & strategies
- Bowel assessment & strategies
- Case Studies
DAY 2:
Friday 5 August, 2022 – Paddington, Brisbane

Content Overview (7 PD hours):
(Day 1 content is a prerequisite for Day 2)
– Toileting Skills Assessment, Planning & Intervention for Children with Additional Needs –
Rebecca has prepared a hands-on, evidence-based professional development experience which will:
- deepen your understanding of how the child’s medical, cognitive, emotional, behavioural, social and environmental factors all impact on their capacity to participate in toileting skill development
- apply Assessments such as the Canadian Occupational Performance Model and PRPP System of Task Analysis to sharpen your assessment and provide baseline figures for reassessment
- report on your assessment findings and create a continence plan with clear goals that facilitate client dignity, choice and independence across toileting contexts
- design an intervention pathway in accordance with client goals while monitoring carer engagement and supporting carers in their role
- enhance your communication across educational contexts
- be prepared to write a review report for the NDIS

Available for OTs, Learning Support Teachers, School Nurses/Continence Nurses, and for those in health-care roles wishing to deepen their learning around toileting strategies.
